Holland America Line

Since its founding in Rotterdam on April 18, 1873, as the Netherlands-America Steamship Company, Holland America has changed much more than its name. It has been a cargo line shipping goods from Europe on vessels powered by steam and sail. It has transported thousands of immigrants to the United States and Canada in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Holland America Line has supplied ships during two world wars.

As guests become more sophisticated travelers Holland America Line continues to adapt both its ships and its services to meet market conditions. The company established facilities in Indonesia and the Philippines to train future employees and Ships while retaining classic cruising traditions, have added modern amenities such as Internet and cell phone service. Holland America Line has also spearheaded technology to become a leader in environmental stewardship efforts, equipping its ships with cleaner-burning engines, water purification systems and vigorous recycling programs.

Over the years Holland America Line's fleet has grown to include a five-star fleet of 15 vessels, offering nearly 500 cruises to more than 320 ports in more than 100 countries, territories or dependencies. Two- to 108-day itineraries visit all seven continents, and highlights include Antarctica, South America, Australia/New Zealand and Asia voyages; a Grand World Voyage; and popular sailings to ports in the Caribbean, Alaska, Mexico, Canada/New England, Europe and the Panama Canal.
